In the afternoon of March 14, 2022, a shooting incident in the 700 block of 13th Street, Southeast, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Antoine Jenkins. Jenkins and another man, 62-year-old Antwan Brown, were in a parking lot of the Potomac Gardens apartment complex when an individual approached them and opened fire. Police believe the attack was targeted.
Emergency services, upon arriving at the scene at approximately 3:21 p.m., found both Jenkins and Brown with gunshot wounds.
Antoine Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Antwan Brown was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Following an investigation into the double homicide, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch identified a suspect. On May 12, 2022, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 27-year-old Raymond Khalil Jones of Temple Hills, Maryland. Jones has since been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder while Armed. The case remained under investigation following the arrest.
