In the early afternoon of a summer day in Washington, D.C., tragedy struck in the Northeast quadrant of the city. On Monday, July 31, 2023, at approximately 12:29 p.m., the sounds of gunfire shattered the midday calm in the 1800 block of West Virginia Avenue, NE. When officers from the Fifth District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
