In the spring of 2018, the life of 17-year-old Domoni Gaither, a male resident of Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 9th, at approximately 3:06 p.m., gunfire erupted in the 300 block of Anacostia Road, SE. When the violence ceased, Gaither lay fatally wounded on a sidewalk in front of an apartment complex. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The incident was part of a triple shooting that shook the Southeast neighborhood.
Two other adult men were also struck by bullets. They were discovered approximately two blocks away from where Gaither was found, in the 3500 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE. Fortunately, their injuries were not considered life-threatening, and they were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation. They appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Gaither's death. A substantial reward was offered for tips that would result in the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects. Despite these efforts, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the murder of Domoni Gaither. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family and the community.
