Around 3:18 p.m., gunfire erupted. Metropolitan Police officers and D.C. Fire and EMS responded quickly, but Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting unfolded near neighborhood landmarks including Sousa Middle School and the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, in broad daylight on a residential stretch of Ely Place.
Witness accounts described the chaos as families and children were returning home, and local newscasts captured the heavy police presence that followed. The initial police bulletin identified Robinson by name and fixed the timeline—3:18 p.m.—and the exact location along the 3700 block, while reporters on scene emphasized that the killing played out within sight of schools and youth facilities.
Detectives from MPD’s Homicide Branch opened an investigation and circulated a public appeal for tips, offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
