In the early morning hours of Friday, March 25, 2022, the life of a young man was tragically cut short in the Kingman Park neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. Khalil Rich, a 16-year-old Black male, was inside a residence on the 1500 block of Isherwood Street, NE, when violence erupted. At approximately 2:34 a.m., D.C. police responded to a report of a shooting at the location.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Khalil suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but his injuries were too severe. Khalil Rich was pronounced dead inside the residence, becoming the second 16-year-old to be fatally shot in the District that year. It was not immediately clear if Khalil lived at the Isherwood Street address.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are leading the ongoing investigation into the shooting. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and authorities have not released any descriptions of potential suspects. The police department is seeking assistance from the public to gather more information about the incident and has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Khalil Rich's death.
