In the summer of 2022, the life of 16-year-old Deandre Coleman was cut short in a burst of gunfire on a residential street in Southeast Washington, D.C.. On the evening of June 15th, at approximately 8:37 PM, officers responded to the sound of gunshots in the 4600 block of Hillside Road, Southeast. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene: two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of them was Deandre.
Despite the immediate efforts of emergency responders, Deandre Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At the time of his death, Deandre was a freshman in high school and was survived by five siblings. His girlfriend was eight months pregnant with their daughter. His mother described him as a 'joyful energized bunny' who was the life of the party.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Authorities believe the group Deandre was with was targeted, though the motive remains unclear. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Deandre's death.
