In the early evening of November 10, 2022, the life of 21-year-old Umar Epps was tragically cut short in a shooting in Northeast Washington, D.C. A Black male, Epps was discovered by Sixth District officers inside a residence on the 4500 block of Quarles Street, Northeast, around 6:37 p.m., suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene, but their efforts to save the young man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
His body was subsequently taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Epps was a resident of Southeast D.C.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide. As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the case. The department is urging anyone with information to come forward and has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for tips that lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Umar Epps's death. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to seek assistance from the public.
