In the early morning hours of Friday, November 25, 2022, the sound of gunshots broke the pre-dawn stillness in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street in Southwest Washington, D.C. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m. Inside a residence, they discovered the body of 44-year-old Sherif Akande, a Black male resident of Southwest D.C.
He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Mr. Akande was quickly classified as a homicide, with detectives from the MPD's Homicide Branch taking the lead. Despite their efforts in the initial stages of the investigation, authorities did not immediately release any information regarding potential suspects or a possible motive for the shooting.
