In the early morning hours of Friday, November 25, 2022, the sound of gunshots broke the pre-dawn stillness in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street in Southwest Washington, D.C. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m. Inside a residence, they discovered the body of 44-year-old Sherif Akande, a Black male resident of Southwest D.C. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
