Rob Deane was born on August 24, 1978, in Reno and had attended various schools, including Incline Village schools, Upper Arlington schools in Ohio, and Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont. He graduated from Bishop Manogue High School and the University of Nevada, Reno.
On the day of the incident, Rob Deane shot his two sons, Jacob, aged 7, and Austin, aged 2, before taking his own life.
All three were found with single gunshot wounds to the head in the bathroom of their northwest Reno home. The tragic event occurred just four days after Rob and his wife, Ashley Deane, had separated. Ashley had moved in with her grandfather, taking the boys with her, but Rob was spending the day with his sons and had planned a bike ride.
There were no other suspects involved in this case, as Rob Deane was the perpetrator of the shootings. The police confirmed that all three deaths were due to gunshot wounds. No arrests were made since Rob Deane, the only suspect, died at the scene.
Ashley Deane later reflected on the overwhelming grief and the impact of the loss on her life. She described how Rob had struggled with depression for years but had always been a good father until this tragic incident.
