In the quiet Palomino Valley area near Reno, Nevada, the morning of July 9, 2024, was shattered by violence. At approximately 9:45 a.m., Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 5000 block of Microwave Drive following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered 46-year-old Indra Souza, a male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a local hospital for urgent care.
On the scene, the deputies began their investigation and soon identified a suspect. The man taken into custody was 81-year-old Jimmy Lellan Shores, who lived in the same household as Souza. Shores was arrested at the residence and initially faced charges of battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and discharging a firearm in a prohibited area. It was determined that there were no other suspects involved in the incident.
For five days, Indra Souza fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe. On July 14, 2024, he succumbed to the gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased. Following his death, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office detectives upgraded the charges against Jimmy Lellan Shores to murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remains ongoing, with authorities yet to release a motive.
