On a summer day in Reno, Nevada, the life of 62-year-old Gary Spangler, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2021, police were called to the Town & Country Motor Lodge on East 4th Street, where they discovered Spangler deceased in one of the rooms. An investigation determined that he had been the victim of a homicide, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The initial investigation by the Reno Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Unit sought to piece together the
events that led to Spangler's death. Detectives worked to identify the person or persons responsible for this violent act. In the days following the discovery of Spangler's body, law enforcement had not yet identified any suspects and no arrests had been made.
As the investigation continued, authorities reached out to the public for assistance in solving the case. Secret Witness, a local crime stoppers organization, offered a cash reward for information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of those involved in Spangler's murder. Despite these efforts, information regarding any subsequent arrests or the identification of any suspects has not been made publicly available, and the case has seemingly gone cold.
