In a tragic turn of events on a Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, a young woman's life was cut short in a shocking act of violence. Lakeitha Thomas, a 26-year-old Black female, was killed on April 19, 2015. The incident, which unfolded on a sidewalk in the 1000 block of Lisbon Avenue, stemmed from an argument that escalated to a fatal conclusion.
Thomas, along with another woman, 28-year-old Lagatha Bell, were shot and killed by Michael Jerome Latimore Jr., 27, of Las Vegas.
Following the shooting of the two women, Latimore then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life in a tragic murder-suicide. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that both Thomas and Bell died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Latimore died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Las Vegas police were called to the scene around 2:30 p.m. where they discovered the bodies of the three individuals. Investigations revealed that Latimore had been in a relationship with one of the women, though the specifics of the argument that led to the deadly confrontation were not publicly detailed. Because the perpetrator took his own life at the scene, there were no ensuing arrests in the case. The incident left the community stunned and mourning the loss of two young women.
