In a quiet apartment in Las Vegas, a tragic scene unfolded on January 15, 2018, ending the life of 52-year-old Rebecca West. A female, she was discovered in the bedroom of a room she was renting with her partner at the Shelter Cove apartments on South Decatur Boulevard. The discovery was made by the resident who was renting the room to the couple; they were found unresponsive in their bed.
When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived, both Rebecca West and her partner,
William Richard Logan, 48, were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found a handgun on the mattress, leading them to suspect the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed these suspicions, ruling West's death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the head. Logan's death was ruled a suicide, also from a gunshot wound to the head.
Two weeks after the incident, the motive behind the murder-suicide remained unclear. However, homicide Lt. Dan McGrath mentioned that West had been "dealing with some significant medical issues." No other suspects were named, and no arrests were made in connection with the case, as the investigation concluded that Logan was the sole perpetrator. The case marked the fifth homicide investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department that year.
