In the early morning hours of October 10, 2000, Essie Otten, a 57-year-old woman also known as Essie Reed, was at a bus stop on the corner of D Street and Paul Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was waiting for the bus that would take her to her job, a routine part of her daily life that was about to be tragically cut short. While she sat on the bus bench, she was murdered.
The investigation into her death has not led to any arrests, and the suspect remains unknown to law enforcement. However, detectives were able to recover surveillance video from a store that captured images of an unidentified white male who had used Ms. Otten's bank card after her death. The man in the video was described as being between 30 and 40 years old, with light brown hair and a goatee. He was wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt and jeans at the time.
Despite the passage of time, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues to seek information regarding the murder of Essie Otten. The motive for her killing has not been publicly released, and the individual captured on video using her bank card remains a person of significant interest in the ongoing investigation.
