Jasmine Corinne Hendrix was a 20-year-old Black woman living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her life ended after a domestic dispute on the evening of January 19, 2022.
The incident began with an argument at the home on the 5000 block of Starfinder Avenue that Jasmine shared with her boyfriend of five years, Jaquan Mott, and her brother. According to police reports, the conflict started over a gun Mott had bought for protection about six months earlier.
Both Jasmine and her brother were concerned about having a firearm in the house. The argument escalated, and Mott allegedly grabbed Jasmine’s cellphone and pushed her brother down a flight of stairs.
Mott then went to a vehicle parked in the home’s garage, intending to leave. Jasmine followed him, and they began to struggle over the cellphone. During the struggle, Mott fired a single round, striking Jasmine in the abdomen.
After she was shot, Mott placed Jasmine in his vehicle and drove her to MountainView Hospital. She arrived at 5:45 p.m. but died from her injuries a short time later. Police were called to the hospital, where they detained Mott for questioning.
Early the next morning, authorities arrested Jaquan Mott, 21. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder and held without bail. As of late January 2022, the case was proceeding through the court system, and Mott’s next hearing was scheduled for February 8.
