On February 1, 2001, Gina Marie Holliday, a 20-year-old Las Vegas resident, was found dead in a desert area southeast of Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. Her body was discovered by recreational dune buggy riders at around 5:35 p.m. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into her death, but no suspects were immediately identified.
