In the heart of Las Vegas, the life of a 29-year-old Black/African American woman, Brittani Monique Bailey, was tragically cut short on January 29, 2024. Known for a bright smile that could illuminate any room she entered, Brittani was a mother who fought hard to ensure her seven children knew the depths of her love. Her life, filled with a unique sense of humor, came to a devastating end inside a room at the MGM Grand hotel, a place typically synonymous with entertainment and excitement, but
for her, became the scene of a grim discovery. Concern grew for her well-being when her boyfriend was unable to reach her for several hours. His unanswered calls prompted a request for a welfare check that would uncover the terrible truth.
Responding to the call around 2 a.m., hotel security entered the room in the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard and found Bailey deceased on the bed. The Clark County coroner's office would later confirm that she died from a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was officially ruled a homicide. Investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department immediately began the arduous task of piecing together her final hours. Utilizing hotel surveillance footage and cellphone records, detectives were able to identify a person of interest who had been with her. The investigation moved swiftly as authorities worked to locate the individual seen in the evidence they had collected.
The search for a suspect led police to Dandre Owens, 29, who was located and taken into custody on February 4, 2024. At the time of his arrest, Owens was found in possession of a handgun, a firearm suppressor, and a magazine. Critically, detectives also discovered Brittani Bailey's social security card inside his wallet. According to authorities, Owens allegedly took Bailey to the hotel room where he shot her in the back of the head with a firearm equipped with a silencer. When confronted by law enforcement, he reportedly gave a false identification in an attempt to hide his identity.
Following his arrest, Dandre Owens was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon, robbery, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and using the identification of another person. The investigation also linked the weapon found on Owens to another homicide that occurred earlier the same month, leading to additional murder charges against him. Prosecutors have since announced their intention to seek the death penalty. Owens remains in custody without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, awaiting trial for the violent end he brought to a young mother's life.
