In the winter of 2018, a beloved mother and grandmother, 55-year-old Celia Luna, went to open the check-cashing business where she had worked for over three years in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the morning of January 11th, her life was tragically cut short in a violent act that left her family and community searching for answers. Two young men, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, confronted her in what police have described as an attempted robbery.
During the encounter, Luna was shot.
Despite the horrific circumstances, she was able to call 911 to report that she had been shot in the chest. Emergency services rushed to the scene at Checks Cashed on North Jones Boulevard, and she was transported to University Medical Center. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away just two hours later. The assailants fled the scene without taking anything, leaving behind a senseless crime that took a cherished life.
In the days and years that followed, Celia Luna's family pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the capture of her killers. Described as the light and laughter of her family, her loss was a devastating blow, particularly to her three children and grandchildren. In October 2019, her adult children filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of the check-cashing business and their security company.
