Rosa Castrejon, 42, a Hispanic woman from Las Vegas, was found shot to death on the morning of October 25, 2011, at Six Mile Cove, a remote beach on the Nevada side of Lake Mohave east of Searchlight. A 911 call from visitors brought park rangers and Las Vegas police to the sandy shoreline around 9:15–9:16 a.m., where they discovered Castrejon deceased and her boyfriend gravely wounded. He was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition.
The Clark County coroner later confirmed she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators said the couple had been camping at the cove when they were approached and shot multiple times. Accounts from the scene described the victims lying face down in the sand when first responders arrived. The violence shattered the quiet of the beach and turned a mid-morning outing into a crime scene hemmed by desert and water, with few immediate witnesses beyond the visitors who made the call.
In the days that followed, detectives released a suspect description and an artist's sketch in hopes of drawing out leads. The man sought was described as a white adult male, approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall and 210 pounds, with a muscular build, short brown hair, and a salt-and-pepper goatee. Authorities also publicized the investigation timeline and location details as they canvassed for tips.
Despite the early publicity, no arrests have been announced in Castrejon's killing. The case has appeared on open-case listings and remains unsolved, with investigators continuing to seek information from anyone who was in the Lake Mohave–Cottonwood Cove area that week.
