On June 29, 2016, a tragic incident unfolded in Las Vegas, Nevada, resulting in the death of 14-year-old Xonajuk Dej-Oudom. The events began when Metro Police received calls about a woman, Phoukeo Dej-Oudom, running through traffic near Torrey Pines Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard. A good Samaritan picked her up and drove her to a nearby CVS pharmacy, with her husband, Jason Dej-Oudom, following them in a black car.
Jason Dej-Oudom threatened the driver with a gun, dragged his wife to his car, and headed east on Lake Mead with his wife partially hanging out a window. Before reaching Jones Boulevard, Phoukeo Dej-Oudom managed to get out of the car and run. A bystander found her body minutes later.
Shortly before 7 p.m., police were dispatched to the family's apartment in the 1900 block of Torrey Pines, where they found Jason Dej-Oudom and the three children, including Xonajuk Dej-Oudom, dead with gunshot wounds. It wasn't clear if Jason Dej-Oudom killed his children before or after shooting his wife. The family had a history of domestic violence, with Phoukeo Dej-Oudom having filed for a restraining order three weeks earlier, citing fear for her and her children's lives. The restraining order was denied because the motion did not meet statutory requirements.
Jason Dej-Oudom, who was described as distraught and suicidal, had called a relative in Ohio around 8 p.m., confessing to having done something wrong. The relative contacted Metro Police, leading to the discovery of the bodies. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victims as Phoukeo Dej-Oudom, 35, and her children, Anhurak Jason Dej-Oudom, 9, Xonajuk J.J. Dej-Oudom, 14, and Dalavanh Ariel Dej-Oudom, 15. Jason Dej-Oudom, the suspect in this tragic incident, was also found dead at the scene.
