On a warm evening in Las Vegas on July 3, 2016, a 46-year-old Caucasian woman named Ladonna Metais was enjoying a cigarette on the front porch of her home on North Campbell Road. Tragically, this ordinary moment turned into a scene of violence when a dark-colored, two-door car stopped in front of her house. Multiple gunshots were fired from the vehicle, and at least one struck Metais.
She was rushed to University Medical Center but ultimately succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation into the death of the hardworking grandmother, who was remembered for her love for her grandkids and being an Elvis fan, soon focused on a suspect named Shawn Eisenman. The motive for this violent act appeared to stem from a dispute over a trailer. Reports indicate that Metais and her boyfriend had attempted to purchase a trailer from Eisenman. After discovering the trailer was stolen, they contacted the police. Following this, Eisenman allegedly began harassing the couple, demanding money and throwing rocks at their house, reportedly warning them, "you don't know who you are messing with."
Shawn Eisenman was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Ladonna Metais. He was also connected to another fatal shooting, that of 27-year-old Cameron Ryan in December 2015. While Eisenman was eventually convicted for Ryan's murder and sentenced to life in prison, the legal proceedings for Metais's death had a different outcome.
In February 2023, after a trial and 11 days of deliberation, a jury found Shawn Eisenman not guilty of the murder of Ladonna Metais. He was also acquitted of assault with a deadly weapon against two other individuals who were on the porch with Metais at the time of the shooting. However, the jury did find him guilty of one felony count of extorting Metais and her boyfriend.
