On the evening of October 1, 2017, James "Sonny" Melton, a 29-year-old male registered nurse from Big Sandy, Tennessee, was attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife, Heather. The couple was celebrating their first wedding anniversary. Suddenly, a barrage of gunfire erupted from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, targeting the crowd of concertgoers.
