In the late summer of 2018, the life of 50-year-old Caucasian female, Monique Lane, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. On September 10, 2018, her body was discovered in a Las Vegas apartment, the victim of a brutal homicide. An investigation by the Clark County coroner's office would later reveal that she had suffered from a gunshot wound to her neck, as well as multiple stab and incised wounds.
The scene that unfolded for law enforcement was a grim tableau of violence.
A person walking through the apartment complex in the 2100 block of Echo Bay stumbled upon the body of another victim, 53-year-old James Wilson of Pahrump, near the doorway of an apartment. This prompted a call to 911. When officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they made the devastating discovery of two more bodies inside the residence. Monique Lane was found on the floor near a bedroom.
The suspect in the double homicide was identified as 51-year-old Matthew Terracin. He was found deceased on the living room couch with a rifle in his lap. The coroner later confirmed that Terracin's death was a suicide caused by a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators have expressed their confidence that Terracin was the person responsible for the deaths of both Monique Lane and James Wilson.
While the motive for the horrific events of that day remains unclear, law enforcement officials noted that there were no apparent signs of a struggle within the apartment. The incident was classified as a double homicide and suicide, with the perpetrator being among the deceased. As a result, there were no arrests to be made in the case, leaving friends and family to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of their loved ones.
