The grim finding was made after a neighbor noticed Spiegler's door was open around 4 p.m.
and, after receiving no answer to their calls, alerted the authorities.
Investigators determined that the attack on Spiegler occurred sometime between 11:30 a.m., when he had a telephone conversation, and 1:30 p.m. that same day. The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Spiegler died from strangulation and blunt force trauma. His house had been ransacked, though authorities did not immediately know what, if anything, had been stolen. On the day of the murder, Spiegler's wife had been out and was waiting for her husband to pick her up.
