Hannah Lassette Mageira Ahlers, a 34-year-old female from Beaumont, California, was attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas with her husband of 16 years, Brian, and several other couples. On the night of October 1, 2017, as they were enjoying the concert near the stage, the festive atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Initially mistaken for fireworks, the couple continued to dance and hold one another. When the sound persisted, it became terrifyingly clear that they were under attack.

In the midst of the chaos, Hannah was struck by a bullet and fell to the ground. Her husband, Brian, immediately threw himself on top of her in an attempt to shield her from further harm, but it was too late. Hannah Ahlers had been shot in the head and died instantly at the scene. She was a devoted stay-at-home mother to three children, then ages 14, 11, and 3.

The perpetrator of the mass shooting was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, who had opened fire on the concert crowd from his suite on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Paddock fired more than 1,000 rounds into the crowd over a period of approximately 11 minutes. By the time law enforcement breached his hotel room, Paddock was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation that followed determined that Paddock acted alone, and a definitive motive for the attack has never been established. There were no other suspects identified or arrests made in connection with the shooting.
