In a quiet home in the west Las Vegas Valley, a grim discovery was made on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, bringing a tragic end to the lives of an elderly couple. Police were called to a residence on the 11000 block of Glacier View Avenue, near West Lake Mead Boulevard, to conduct a welfare check shortly after 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they received no answer at the front door.
Their concern growing, the officers moved to the back of the house.
Peering through a window, they saw the motionless body of a man lying on a bed. This prompted them to make entry into the home. Inside, they found the man and a 92-year-old female, identified as Phyllis Lipshutz, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were summoned to the scene, but both individuals were pronounced dead.
The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed the identities of the deceased as Phyllis Lipshutz and her husband, 91-year-old Herman Lipshutz. The coroner determined that both died from gunshot wounds to the head. The death of Phyllis Lipshutz was officially ruled a homicide. Her husband’s death was ruled a suicide.
Investigators with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department learned that the couple, who had been married, had recently received distressing news regarding their worsening medical conditions. Detectives believe this news was a significant factor in the incident. The investigation concluded that Herman Lipshutz shot his wife before taking his own life. As the sole suspect in the homicide is deceased, no arrests have been made. The investigation into the heartbreaking event is considered ongoing.
