In the crisp late autumn air of Las Vegas, a tragedy unfolded on November 30, 2019, forever altering the lives of a local family. Kevin Soriano Jimenez, a 17-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot in an encounter that began with the theft of his father's truck. Remembered by a former teacher as a funny kid who always made her laugh, Kevin's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
The incident escalated when Kevin and his father decided to pursue the individual who had stolen
their vehicle. During the chase, the suspect opened fire, striking and killing the teenager and wounding his father. The assailant then abandoned the truck and fled the scene, leaving a family shattered by the sudden and violent loss of a son.
For more than two years, the case remained a painful open wound for the Jimenez family and the community. Investigators, however, continued to work the case. A breakthrough finally came, leading them to a suspect already incarcerated for an unrelated matter. In January 2022, law enforcement announced the arrest of 32-year-old Omar Martinez.
Martinez, who was serving time at High Desert State Prison, was transferred to the Clark County Detention Center and officially charged with the murder of Kevin Soriano Jimenez. The arrest brought a measure of progress in the long journey for justice for Kevin, a young man whose life was tragically taken while defending his family's property.
