In the heart of Las Vegas, on a Saturday afternoon, the life of Elliod Engeda, a 27-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. On February 8, 2020, just after noon, gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Your Stop Liquors on East Twain Avenue. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Engeda on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A handgun was also found with him.
Despite the immediate response, Engeda succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and his death was later officially ruled a homicide by the Clark County coroner's office.
Detectives piecing together the events of that fatal day determined that the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation. Engeda had reportedly been involved in a fight with two other men just moments before the deadly shots were fired. The investigation took a turn when, a few minutes after police arrived at the liquor store, a man suffering from a gunshot wound walked into the nearby Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Given the proximity and timing, detectives considered his potential involvement and interviewed him. However, this individual was not taken into custody, and as of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with Elliod Engeda's death.
The case remains shrouded in unanswered questions. Investigators have suggested the shooting may have been gang-related, and gang detectives were brought in to assist with the homicide investigation. It was also revealed that Engeda himself was a person of interest in a separate shooting that had occurred earlier that same morning on South Wynn Road, though no one was injured in that incident. The investigation into who was responsible for the death of Elliod Engeda continues, leaving his community and family awaiting justice.
