In a bold move to catch the killer, Captain Andrew Walsh of the LVMPD devised a sting operation using a mannequin disguised as a homeless person sleeping on the street. After three weeks, the plan succeeded when Shane Schindler was caught on video attacking the dummy with a hammer. Schindler was arrested and later pleaded guilty to attempted murder. He was sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison on August 24, 2017.
