On the evening of January 18, 2018, a dispute at a park in the eastern valley of Las Vegas turned deadly for 16-year-old Jovanni Grimes, a Black/African American male. The fatal encounter took place at Lewis Family Park, located near the intersection of East Charleston Boulevard and Tree Line Drive. Authorities reported that a fight preceded the shooting, a recurring issue at the park according to city marshals.
