Eugene "Bud" Branton Jr., 36, was last seen at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas, on August 6, 1984. His supervisor at the Far-Mar-Co elevator reported him missing when he failed to show up for work the next day. When police arrived at Branton’s home, they found the house unlocked with the lights on, but no signs of struggle or missing items. Branton, who lived with his 11-year-old daughter (who was on vacation at the time), had recently become engaged just two days before his disappearance.
