On the evening of March 17, 2021, a heated argument shattered the quiet of an apartment in Las Vegas. Gerardo Romero, a 28-year-old Hispanic man, was embroiled in a dispute with his own uncle, Ruben Tavarez. The source of their conflict was a gold ring that Tavarez believed to be fake. This argument, which took place in an apartment on the 2100 block of Houston Drive, near Eastern Avenue and Charleston Boulevard, would ultimately cost Romero his life.
