Norzel Ross Jr., a 55-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in a Las Vegas apartment complex, marking a violent end to a domestic turmoil that had simmered for years. The tragedy unfolded at the Play Vista apartment complex, located at 3700 block of East Bonanza Road, near Pecos, around 11 a.m., when a heated verbal argument between Ross and his longtime girlfriend took a deadly turn.
Living in the apartment with Ross was his girlfriend and
her 30-year-old son. As the dispute between Ross and his girlfriend escalated, the son emerged from his room to intervene. The confrontation quickly became physical, culminating in the son shooting Ross. Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but Ross was pronounced dead from his injuries. Family members later confirmed his identity to news outlets, expressing their profound grief. Ross's brother-in-law, speaking to reporters, shared his devastation, highlighting the close bond he shared with Ross.
Following the shooting, the girlfriend's son turned himself into the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He was taken into custody and was reported to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The girlfriend was also taken into custody. Relatives of Ross described his decade-long relationship with the woman as consistently tumultuous, suggesting a history of conflict that tragically climaxed in his death. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Ross's family, including a nine-year-old daughter who also resided in Las Vegas, were left to mourn a man they described as a "good dude."
