In the crisp autumn of October 1995, the tranquil community of Teller County, Colorado, was unsettled by a large fire that authorities suspected was the work of an arsonist. This event set in motion a tragic chain of events that would culminate in the death of 26-year-old male Deputy Brent Andrew Holloway. A dedicated officer who had moved to the area with his high school sweetheart, Kelly, drawn by the majestic mountains, Holloway had realized his lifelong dream of working in law enforcement,
becoming a full-time deputy in 1994.
In the early morning hours of October 16, 1995, Deputy Holloway was assigned to guard the scene of the suspicious fire. It was a lonely post, and after a routine radio check-in around 6 a.m., an unsettling silence followed. When his colleagues were unable to reach him, they went to check on his welfare. Tragically, a fellow officer and close friend discovered Holloway in his patrol car, having been fatally shot in the head with a shotgun.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a suspect named Adam Cooper, a 28-year-old with a criminal history of burglary convictions. Authorities discovered a stolen vehicle near the crime scene that was linked to Cooper.
