In the late hours of October 21, 2002, a night that began at a local bar ended in tragedy for 21-year-old Juan J. Castaneda-Gallardo. The young Hispanic male had been at Teddy's Bar, located inside the Holiday Inn near West 49th Avenue and Bannock Street in Denver. At closing time, he and a friend departed from the establishment.
As the vehicle they were in approached the intersection of West 48th Avenue and Fox Street, their path was violently interrupted.
An unknown individual in a separate vehicle opened fire on them. Castaneda-Gallardo was struck by the gunfire. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal, and he died.
The Denver Police Department initiated an investigation into the homicide, but the case has since gone cold. To date, the person or persons responsible for the death of Juan J. Castaneda-Gallardo have not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide, with authorities continuing to seek information from the public that might lead to a resolution.
