In the late hours of August 23, 2005, the life of 25-year-old Sam Cameron was tragically cut short in a desolate alley near the intersection of Pennsylvania Street and Bayaud Avenue in Denver, Colorado. A Black male, Cameron was discovered lifeless next to his black BMW, having been shot twice in the back of the head. The nature of the wounds suggested a calculated act, not a random street crime.
His family believes he was with people he trusted, as he was cautious about who he allowed into his vehicle. It is thought that one individual was in the passenger seat while the fatal shots were fired by a person seated directly behind him.
The motive for the killing remains shrouded in mystery, though robbery is considered a possibility as some of his personal belongings, including his watch and money, were missing. After the shooting, his body was mercilessly dragged from the car and left in the alley. The brutality of the act left his family, including his pregnant wife who was expecting twins, devastated and searching for answers. The pain of their loss was compounded by the fact that the case quickly grew cold.
Investigators believe that the men responsible for Cameron's death were also involved in the burglary of his apartment just hours after the murder. A neighbor witnessed two men fleeing the scene of the crime. One was described as a Black male, between 18 and 24 years old, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing around 180 pounds. The second individual was also a Black male, estimated to be about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. Despite these descriptions and ongoing investigations by the Denver Police Department, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Sam Cameron, leaving his case as one of the city's many unsolved homicides. His father continues to seek justice, regularly contacting the police for any new developments in the hope that one day his son's killers will be held accountable.
