On the evening of July 20, 2022, a violent and tragic event unfolded in a Denver, Colorado park, forever altering the lives of a local family. Sergio Ordonez-Valencia, a 41-year-old married father of two, was spending time near his home in the vicinity of 4800 North High Street when the unthinkable occurred. At approximately 11:15 p.m., a man approached a group of four men, including Ordonez-Valencia, who were seated at a picnic table in Elyria Park.
The man, later identified as Alejandro Blanco, a 32-year-old Cuban national, reportedly made a chilling declaration to the group: 'I'm going to kill all of you'.
Following his threat, Blanco is accused of firing two shots into the group. One of the bullets struck Sergio Ordonez-Valencia in the neck. He was gravely wounded and was pronounced dead the following day. The sudden and senseless act of violence left his family and the local community devastated.
The investigation into the murder of Sergio Ordonez-Valencia led the Denver Police Department to their suspect, Alejandro Blanco. He was apprehended on July 29, 2022. At the time of his arrest, Blanco was already on probation for a prior conviction of aggravated motor vehicle theft and had multiple outstanding warrants from El Paso County for probation violations. In addition to being held for investigation of the first-degree murder of Ordonez-Valencia, Blanco also faced three counts of attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, presumably for the other men who were at the picnic table that night. His criminal history revealed a pattern of non-compliance with court orders, as he had repeatedly failed to report to his probation officer and had missed court appearances.
