In the cool evening of October 5, 2022, a date night for 15-year-old Edward Armijo Preciado ended in tragedy in Denver, Colorado. The young man, a male of Hispanic descent, had enjoyed an evening with his girlfriend, visiting an arcade and getting food before they began their journey home. After getting off a bus, he was walking his girlfriend and her sister home when shots rang out near the intersection of 31st Avenue and Downing Street.
In a final act of bravery, Preciado shielded his
girlfriend and her sister from the gunfire. He was struck eight times, while his girlfriend sustained a gunshot wound to her foot. Rushed to a nearby hospital, Edward Armijo Preciado succumbed to his injuries three days later on Saturday. His family was left grappling with the sudden and violent loss, believing that he was specifically targeted in the attack.
In the wake of the shooting, the Denver police had very little information to proceed with their investigation. They appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the death of the young man. As of over a year after the fatal shooting, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Eddie Armijo Preciado, leaving a community and a grieving family searching for answers.
