In the crisp early autumn of 2008, a life was tragically cut short on the streets of Denver, Colorado. On the evening of September 27th, 25-year-old Carlos Alva-Perez, a Hispanic/Latino male, found himself in a fatal confrontation. The incident unfolded in the 4900 block of Peoria Street, a location that would become the final scene of his young life.
According to police reports, the encounter began when a vehicle carrying a group of males and females pulled up alongside Alva-Perez's
vehicle. A verbal exchange, the nature of which remains part of the ongoing investigation, quickly escalated. Sensing danger, Alva-Perez attempted to drive away from the escalating situation. It was in this moment of attempted escape that the occupants of the other vehicle opened fire.
A single gunshot found its mark, striking Alva-Perez in the head. The suspects' vehicle then sped away from the scene, leaving chaos and a life hanging in the balance. First responders arrived to find the critically injured young man and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the gunshot wound proved to be too severe, and Carlos Alva-Perez succumbed to his injuries.
