On a crisp Halloween night in Commerce City, Colorado, the joyous sounds of trick-or-treaters were tragically silenced by an act of violence that claimed the life of 24-year-old Dillon Leo Bueno. On October 31, 2015, Dillon was at his family's home on Krameria Street, participating in the evening's festivities by handing out candy. Just after 9:30 p.m., having run out of treats, he went to his car parked in the driveway to retrieve more.
As he was by his vehicle, three men approached
him. An attempted robbery quickly escalated, and Dillon was shot. His friend, who was with him, ran inside screaming for someone to call 911. His parents, Leo and Lucy Bueno, rushed to his side and attempted to render aid, but his injuries were too severe. Dillon died in his parents' arms in the driveway of their home.
The assailants fled the scene and have not been apprehended. Investigators with the Adams County Sheriff's Office have described the suspects as three males who were wearing black hoodies and skeleton masks or bandanas that obscured their faces. In some reports, the suspects were identified as Black men. Despite the passage of years and the family's repeated pleas for information, the case remains unsolved, leaving a lingering pain for a family whose holiday was forever transformed into a recurring nightmare. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to ask for the public's help in bringing those responsible for Dillon Bueno's death to justice.
