Annie Acevedo-Hernandez, 19, female, was found fatally wounded inside a residence on La Salle Street in Colorado Springs on March 19, 2020. Responding officers and investigators later identified her publicly and confirmed the El Paso County Coroner completed an autopsy the following day, formalizing her death as part of a homicide investigation.
Detectives determined that a single round had been fired from a rifle being handled inside the home by her husband, 20-year-old Victor
Esquivel. According to police, the weapon discharged once, striking Annie and causing the fatal injury.
Esquivel was arrested on a warrant for manslaughter and booked into the El Paso County Jail. Local reporting at the time noted he was later released on bond while the case proceeded.
