In the early hours of a cold Wednesday morning in Denver, Colorado, on January 27, 2021, the life of 34-year-old Lewis Nicholas Garcia, a male, was tragically cut short. He was discovered on the ground by a passerby at the La Vista Motel located in the 5500 block of East Colfax Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene around 2 a.m., they found Garcia suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Lewis, a Colorado native born in Greeley, was remembered as a loving father to his six-year-old son, Landon. He was a graduate of Northridge High School, and his family, including his mother, stepfather, and three siblings, were left heartbroken and searching for answers in the wake of his sudden and violent death. His sister expressed the family's devastation, stating, “Lewis was taken from this life and from his family by someone who had no regard for life.” A GoFundMe campaign was initiated by the family to help with funeral expenses, with any remaining funds intended for his young son's future.
In the days following the shooting, the Denver Police Department publicly identified Lewis Nicholas Garcia as the victim and appealed to the community for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible. Investigators were actively searching for the gunman and any witnesses who might have seen something that could aid in the investigation. A reward of up to $2,000 was offered by Metro Denver Crime Stoppers for any information that would lead to an arrest and charges in the case. Despite these efforts, in the weeks that followed, no arrests were made, and no suspect information was released to the public. The investigation into the homicide of Lewis Nicholas Garcia remains open, leaving his family and community still awaiting justice.
