A teen is shot and killed in Denver while riding in a car with his cousin
In the early morning hours of a December weekend in Denver, a tragic event unfolded that cut short the life of 15-year-old Demetrius Paul Cruz. The young man was in a vehicle with his cousin near Sheridan Boulevard and West Dartmouth when their car was struck from behind. In a sudden and violent turn, an individual exited the other vehicle and opened fire. Demetrius was struck by the gunfire.
First responders arrived at the scene in the 5200 block of West Bates in the Bear Valley neighborhood at approximately 3:50 a.m. to find the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds to his back. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died a short time later.
