In the cold, early morning hours of January 22, 2011, a life was tragically cut short in Denver, Colorado. Quentin Elexander Smith, a 21-year-old Black male, was standing outside a house party on North Pontiac Street when he became the victim of a fatal drive-by shooting. The incident occurred close to 1 a.m. in front of a residence in the 3300 block of the street.
Smith was attending a party at the location and had stepped outside just moments before the shooting.
A vehicle, which has not been publicly identified, drove by the house, and an occupant or occupants opened fire, striking Smith multiple times. The car then quickly fled the scene. Emergency services were called, and Smith was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The Denver coroner's office later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Denver Police Department's homicide unit launched an investigation into Smith's death, following up on leads and interviewing people who were in the area at the time of the shooting. Despite their efforts, the case grew cold, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The shooting was noted as the second recent homicide in that same neighborhood, following the death of another young man just a month prior a few blocks away.
The case of Quentin Smith's murder remains unsolved, and the Denver Police Department continues to seek information from the public that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for his death.
