In the late summer of 2014, the life of Daniel Maurice Ussery, a 57-year-old White male, was tragically cut short in Denver, Colorado. Known for his love of the outdoors and woodworking, Daniel was a graduate of Red Bank High School, class of 1975. His life, however, took a devastating turn on the evening of August 15th. Along a bicycle path near 45th and Washington, he was the victim of a brutal attack, sustaining multiple stab wounds.
Discovered unresponsive around 7:30 p.m., passersby
rushed to a nearby Conoco gas station to summon help. Emergency services arrived and transported Daniel to Denver Health Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at 8:30 that evening. The Denver Coroner's Office would later confirm that the cause of his death was the numerous stab wounds he had suffered, officially ruling it a homicide.
In the wake of his death, the Denver Police Department opened an investigation into the murder of Daniel Ussery. However, the case grew cold over time, with no suspects publicly identified or arrested. His death is now listed as one of Colorado's cold cases, a painful and unresolved chapter for his surviving family, including his mother, sisters, and brothers.
