Lee, a Black male, was with his friend, Lonell Franklin, when the dispute occurred with an unidentified individual at a liquor store located at Bruce Randolph and York Street.
Following the argument, Lee, Franklin, and a female companion left the location in their vehicle.
Their journey was cut short at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Steele Street. While stopped at a traffic light, a silver or gray SUV pulled alongside their car, and an occupant, or occupants, from within the SUV opened fire on them. The hail of bullets tore through their vehicle, striking all three individuals inside. After the assault, the suspect's vehicle fled the scene, disappearing into the night.
The aftermath of the shooting was grim. Lonell Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. DeShon Lee, though gravely wounded, was still alive when emergency services arrived. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Denver Health Medical Center.
