On the evening of June 6, 2024, 29-year-old Manuel C. Luque-Quintana, a Hispanic/Latino male, was with a female companion in a parked car in Denver, Colorado, in what would tragically be the final moments of his life. The pair was situated in the 500 block of N. Sheridan Boulevard when another vehicle approached. A passenger from the newly arrived car emerged and opened fire on Luque-Quintana and the woman beside him. The sudden eruption of violence left Luque-Quintana with fatal injuries.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his wounds two days later on June 8, 2024. His female companion was also critically injured in the assault. Despite her serious injuries, she managed to get out of the car and walk away from the immediate scene. She was later found by police and transported to the hospital.
In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, the Denver Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear, leaving a veil of uncertainty over the violent encounter. Utilizing new license plate reader technology and valuable tips from the public, law enforcement officials were able to identify two suspects. Authorities apprehended 31-year-old Simon Eugene Elijah Gurule in Denver and a 16-year-old male accomplice in the nearby city of Arvada. Both individuals were taken into custody and are facing serious charges for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting. The charges brought against them include first-degree murder and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, reflecting the gravity of the assault that claimed one life and critically wounded another. Gurule is reportedly being held on a one-million-dollar cash-only bond as the legal proceedings against both suspects commence.
