In the Montbello neighborhood of Denver, a promising young life was cut short on the evening of November 14, 2021. Anthony Darnell “Chico” Golden Jr., a 15-year-old male, was fatally shot in an incident that sent shockwaves through his community. Officers responded to reports of the shooting in the 15500 block of East 53rd Avenue at approximately 8:32 p.m.
There, they discovered the gravely injured teenager.
Golden was rushed to Children's Hospital for treatment, but tragically, he was pronounced dead later that evening. A student at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College in the Green Valley Ranch area, he was remembered by those who knew him as a bright and talented individual. He excelled in both his academic pursuits and in athletics, leaving a lasting impression on his teachers, friends, and family who recalled a dedicated, smart, and kind young man with dreams of one day playing in the NFL or becoming a doctor.
The day following the tragic shooting, the Denver Police Department made an arrest in connection with Golden's death. A juvenile male was taken into custody and held on investigation of first-degree murder. Citing the suspect's age, authorities did not publicly release his name. Officials have not disclosed a potential motive for the crime that ended a young life full of potential.
