In the early morning hours of August 19, 2022, a tragic event unfolded in the parking lot of the New Havana Grill in Colorado Springs, Colorado, culminating in the death of 37-year-old Glenn Fruster. At approximately 2:04 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call reporting a shooting in the 2100 block of Academy Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, later identified as Glenn Fruster, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The El Paso County Coroner's Office later completed an autopsy and his death was investigated as a homicide.
The investigation into the death of the Colorado Springs man quickly led to a suspect. On August 22, 2022, just days after the fatal shooting, 41-year-old Carnel Davis, also a resident of Colorado Springs, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody without incident at the Police Operations Center. Davis was subsequently charged with one count of Murder in the First Degree and transported to the El Paso County Jail. Further investigation by the 4th Judicial District Attorney's office resulted in a total of 12 charges filed against Davis, including 1st-degree murder, 2nd-degree murder, robbery, and felony menacing.
Court records revealed that at the time of the shooting, Carnel Davis was a convicted felon with a history of criminal behavior, including a prior incident at the same location. In August 2021, Davis had pleaded guilty to wielding a gun at the New Havana Grill and threatening to 'shoot the place up.' In May 2023, an El Paso County jury found Davis guilty of 2nd-degree murder, robbery, and three counts of felony menacing. Subsequently, a judge sentenced Carnel Davis to 60 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections for the murder and robbery convictions. He also received an additional six-year sentence for the felony menacing convictions, which will run concurrently with the 60-year sentence.
