On a summer evening in Colorado Springs, a verbal dispute in an apartment complex parking lot escalated into a fatal exchange of gunfire. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Incline Apartments on Sinton Road, resulted in the death of 46-year-old Antonio Bonner.
When Colorado Springs Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 7:13 p.m., they discovered one man deceased and Mr. Bonner suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The El Paso County Coroner's Office later officially identified the deceased male at the scene as 37-year-old Russell Basham.
The subsequent investigation by the CSPD Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit revealed that a verbal argument between Bonner and Basham had escalated, leading to both men firing weapons they were carrying. Both of their deaths were ruled homicides.
According to law enforcement, there are no outstanding suspects in this case, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. The incident was the 29th and 30th homicide investigation in the city of Colorado Springs for that year.
